Shadowrun: Deus Ex Arcana
In the Sixth World, the terms magic and Awakened is synonymous with the word power. For the past eight decades, metahuman kind has had to struggle with the implications of magic and how it shapes the world, even for those who cannot feel its power. For some it’s a point of contention, a force to be tightly controlled lest it be used as a dreadful weapon that could destroy everything. Some see it as simply another aspect of nature, something to be celebrated and nurtured as understanding of it grows. Others, see it simply as another tool to be used as one sees fit, for both good or ill.
Regardless of one’s views on magic, there is always one fact regarding magic that remains constant: that there is never going to be a complete understanding of how magic works. Because every time someone thinks they’ve figured it out, some other thing along comes and literally dispels that notion.
The Disian Shadow War and subsequent Un- and Re-Awakening of magic was just that, a changing of the rules. Ways and means that were once relied upon to form the pillar of current magical theory were suddenly not working the way they used to so while even older methods, ones once thought obsolete now seemed the only way to get back to … behave again.
