Ambin Silfverspear stepped off the railing with a big sigh of relief. Almost a full month had she spent on the ship that had taken her from the capital city of Bastion to this obscure colony. Windheim was so far from the mainland ships only sailed here twice a year, when the winds and ocean streams were favourable. It felt strange to walk on solid ground once more. She leaned against the corner of one of the warehouses in the harbour for a few moments to settle herself.

So, Foamsvale… The town from which the Bastionites first settled and then conquered this godsforsaken island. Hah! A town… On the mainland it would hardly have been called that, a large village maybe. She looked up to her right to the Governor’s “palace” situated on the last foothill of the mountains that sloped down into the valley that gave the “town” its name. By Thrakon, most of the lesser nobles in the capital would never abase themselves by living in such an unimpressive building. She really was in the most backwater colony of the Empire…

As she started walking towards the main square where she would find the temple, a bank, the best inn of the town, and of course the “palace” (that much of Bastionian organization seemed to be preserved even here it seemed), she saw many commoners who had stopped dead in their tracks to gaze with awe up at the palace. They were actually impressed by it! They looked like they were gazing at Thrakon himself in the flesh. Incredible… Was this really the most breathtaking piece of Bastionian architecture on this island? Laughable!

But then again. She was not here for sightseeing, or to spend time here in Foamsvale. She was here for adventure! There were tales in the capital almost as old as the city itself of great artifacts and magical treasure to be found here. Ancient dwarven weapons and forgotten relics. There was no better place to go to find these things, or to experience untamed wilderness, it was told. She would sleep the night here and then she would head off out into the wild. Her father would regret not naming her his heir. She would show him! The world shall know her name!
The Windheim Companion
A fantasy world setting called Windheim to use for your adventures playing Dragonbane/Drakar och Demoner including information on the history, kins and geography of the island as well as an overview of the deities of this world.

Windheim Companion
Windheim is an island, a colony of the Bastionian empire ruling most of the known world of Eshfera. The bastionites are a human and halfling culture worshipping Thrakon, the ruling deity of the pantheon. On Windheim their power is strong but not quite as dominant as in the rest of the world

Most of the island is ruled directly by the Bastionites except for two powerful dwarven realms and some very remote parts. The northern one of these dwarven realms is Thym Zûr and it is allied with the Bastionian empire. They keep a close watch on their ancient enemies from Khal Dhem in the south. These realms are at war but battles larger than skirmishes have been very rare since the arrival of the bastionites some 300 years ago. The schism between Thym Zûr and Khal Dhem dominates the conflicts on the island.

Also allied with the Bastionian empire and Thym Zûr are the myhl, the island’s indigenous human tribes, but due to heavy taxations from the Bastionites they have rebelled several times during the past hundred years. The latest, and bloodiest, of these has caused the Bastionian authorities to harshly restrict the freedom of the Myhl. There are for example restrictions for the myhl to travel on Windheim and they are banned from owning weapons other than spears and bows that can be used for hunting.

The dwarves of Thym Zûr are deeply sorrowful over the increasing tension of their two allies but are too dependent on the support of the Bastionites to act as intermediates with any weight. On the mainland though, the Myhl who’ve managed to make their way there are renowned and respected for their unsurpassed skill as singers. No one on the mainland has heard of the small uprisings of a far away and obscure colony, so the PCs (if they originate from the mainland) would not be prejudice towards the Myhl as most (but not all) Bastionites on Windheim are. Here, on the island, they are nowadays mostly considered to be troublemakers and rebels.

The Horn of the Dawn - Part one
Part one in what we plan will be a campaign trilogy set on Windheim, adventure enough for plenty of roleplaying sessions.

The Horn of the Dawn is an epic campaign that takes the adventurers through most of Windheim. With a great mix of epic battles, political intrigues, moral dilemmas, murder mysteries and dungeon crawls it will give you the ultimate roleplaying experience!

Starting with some of the characters arriving in Foamsvale, the main Bastionite town of Windheim, the characters will set out on a journey that will make them the main movers of history, not only on Windheim but in the whole world of Eshfera. The main plot progresses along a very clear path while along the way there are many possibilities for the characters to make different choices to advance the story in a wide variety of ways.

We want to make it easy for a Game Master who wants clear instructions on how to run this campaign while also leaving room for sandbox play for those who prefer that kind of playstyle.  A tough balance, we know, but playtesting has shown that we are hitting it pretty close to the mark in this regard.
